Failing to Read the Recipe
How will you prepare a delicious meal if you can’t even read instructions on how to make one? You have to know what to do with the food items on your kitchen’s countertop. Sadly, few people take the time to read the recipe. Sure, you don’t have to keep going through the step on how to cook a specific meal more so if you have prepared it before. But, whenever you’re cooking something new, it makes perfect sense to read the recipe so that you don’t miss a step and end up with a horrible dish that no one wants to eat.
Not Allowing the Pan Enough Time to Heat up
Unless the recipes states otherwise you should always let your pan heat before adding food. Seasoned chefs say that you’ll experience varied success in the kitchen if you learn how to avoid the cold pan syndrome. You see, a hot pan enables any type of food to release moisture fast. It also creates an instant seal around your food items to allow even cooking. Even then, you shouldn’t overheat your pan. You may sprinkle a few drop of water to gauge how hot the pan is. On a hot pan, the water will sizzle and evaporate straight away.
Stirring the Food All the Time
This is a common kitchen mistake. Sure, you can watch your food as it cooks but that doesn’t mean that you should keep stirring it. Thus, put your tongs, spatula, wooden spoon or whatever it is that you’re using and step away from the food. However, you shouldn’t leave the room. Every time you stir your food, it loses contact with the pan. In essence, this means that you’re extending the cooking time.
It is the simple things that you do (or don’t do) in the kitchen that make all the difference between a tasty and a bland meal. Did you know, for instance, that you should taste your food before serving? How else will know it has enough salt? Well, most people don’t!
